What makes a Role Model?

Time and again we spend our time with our associates, listening to their behaviours and adapting to the things they love. We become in sync with our associates so to speak at some point in our lives. We might not even notice the sudden change in behaviour, such as word constructions and favourite quotes. Simply because of how close we become with our associates, regardless of whether it is good deeds or simply things we never anticipated we’d ever do in our lives.

With the times changing and the world revolving around technology our associates may shift to people we’ve never even met, the people that we only know the basics, the things they love and what they say most of the times, the people whose lives are designed by media itself, on what the press has to say about them. Who they are dating and what they love saying, what each phrase means and their intentions of it.

Likewise, with our role models today may also shift to the people we’ve never met, the people we have never imagined bumping into and if we did it would certainly come as a great shock. We don’t even anticipate sharing the simplest things such as a mall or a coffee shop.

What we spend watching is what we become, so to speak. Meaning the more we ironically associate ourselves with the most glamorous icons of today’s generations, we might even consider being glamorous as well or even consider working hard like they have, to accomplish similar things that they have accomplished or channel it into our careers. Apply their hard work on our talent and our passion.

When our icons stumble we feel as if we have stumbled, we become attached to those people, for the obvious reason that we look up to them, in a way that they play an enormous role in our lives. What we eat and how we look after our health might even be similar to theirs. Which brings me to the topic at hand ‘what makes a role model?’

If we have the audacity to imitate whoever on this broad globe, regardless of the impact it has, that’s a role model. The people that have an enormous influence in our lives are our role models, be it they are sitting next to us or they are one of today’s icons.
